Previously, Audi has announced that they will debut the RS5 Cabriolet on 6 September, ahead of Paris Auto Show – via live streaming. So yesterday, they finally brought the long-awaited cabriolet to surface which will hit the German market in Spring of 2013.The new RS or ‘Renn Sport’ translates to ‘Racing Sport’ which is the status it carries from its pedigree – is slotted with a 4.2 litre FSI V8 motor that cranks out 450 hp at 8,250 rpm and produces maximum torque of 430 Nm – but more on that later. The RS5 is designed to connote a combination of silhouette flow and body lines with perfectly balanced proportions. A pair of wedge-shaped headlights fitted with xenon plus units and LED strips complement the RS5′s matte aluminium frame and the hexagonal single-frame grille with honeycomb insert. The rear features oval twin-tailpipes fitted on a matt aluminium diffuser. A carbon fibre ducktail spoiler highlights the rear of this handsome machine.A special foam layer that provides high acoustic support is used for the soft top and it can be closed within 15 or 17 seconds just by pressing a button. This can be done even while driving at 50km/h. When it opens, it takes about 60 litres of boot space, leaving another 320 litres for the luggage. The cabin features a dominantly black interior with some trim in chrome, high-gloss black and carbon fibre. The leather-wrapped, flat-bottomed steering wheel bears the RS lettering – etched on the rev counter and seats as well. The multifunction button can be used to control driving dynamics system Audi drive select. The sport seats are electronically adjustable and offer lateral support, lumbar support, extendable thigh support and also an integrated head restraints. Other than the black finish, Audi also offers Race aluminum, piano black finish, matt brushed aluminum or stainless steel mesh finish plus, with the company’s exclusive programme, there are more options for customization.Back to the mill, it can propel the car from zero to century in a mere 4.9 seconds. The top speed is 250 km/h and is electronically limited. However, Audi can lift it up to 280 km/h at customer’s request. The power is transferred to the wheels via a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox with a high-ratio final gear. The S tronic can be operated automatically or through the selector lever or the paddles on the steering wheel – a good feature for an ideal starting speed. - www.wemotor.com
