BMW has announced that they will stop producing the two-door 3 Series. Instead, the coveted mid-range coupe will be replaced by the new BMW 4 Series Coupe, which will make its debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, January next year. BMW says that the new 4 Series “adds a new dimension to the qualities of the BMW 3 Series Coupe in terms of aesthetics, dynamics and elegance”.The new 4 Series layout is 50 mm longer, 44 mm wider and 16 mm lower than the current 3 Series Coupe. You can tell that the hexagonal full-LED headlights take its cue from the F30 3 Series but look below and there is a pair of large air intake vents integrated into the front apron. Each vent is garnished with satin-finish aluminium trims for a wide and sporty effect. The “Air Breather” vents located behind the front wheels emphasize works in tandem with the front air intake vents to reduce drag around the front wheels. The similar garnish on the lower section of the rear bumper acts as a housing for the exhaust tips.Like any other BMWs, the interior blends style, sportiness and exclusivity. The seats and dashboard are finished in a two-tone Black and Schiaparelli trims, with light contrast stitching to highlight the uniqueness of the cockpit. Fine details such as embossed lettering and trim elements are provided by BMW Individual. A Natural Chestnut fine wood trim strip is used as a finishing touch to the exclusive interior. There has been no official details on the powertrain but the Bavarian company is rumoured to deploy both 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four and 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six from the outgoing 3 Series Sedan. As aforementioned, the new 4 Series Coupe will be officially unveiled next year. Production is expected to start shortly after.-www.wemotor.com
